Legal Assistant - Banking, Finance and Property group (Sydney Office)

We currently have a vacancy for a Legal Assistant in our Banking Finance and Property group.

Role Responsibilities include: 

  • Prioritise work received from solicitors and type correspondence, documents, faxes etc from dictation
  • Attend to all typing
  • Open new matters
  • Manage files, find and collate documents, close and archive files
  • Attend to photocopying and scanning of documents, mail, faxes and email
  • Liaise with clients as required
  • Assist with billing
  • Draft routine correspondence
  • Ensure urgent tasks are dealt with when required
  • Assist other secretaries and paralegals
  • Order Property searches

Receptionist (Sydney Office)

We currently have a vacancy for a Receptionist for levels 17 & 14 at our Sydney office.

Role Responsibilities include: 

  • Respond to and direct phone calls in an efficient and timely manner
  • Attend to visiting clients and other external parties
  • Coordinate couriers and deliveries
  • Assist in keeping meeting rooms clean and tidy
  • Liaise with the catering attendant to provide refreshments for clients
  • Maintain and tidy the reception area
  • Update the intranet as required, including but not limited to the Staff Directory and related documents as may be relevant and requested
  • Ensure urgent tasks are dealt with when required in a timely manner

Other duties:

  • General administration duties as may be required
  • Ad-hoc duties if and as may be required

Licensed Conveyancer (Sydney Office)

Responsibilities:

  • To assist the partners and other authors/ paralegals in the team in the efficient management of their matters. 
  • Be will be able to complete complex tasks in relation to matters without the direct intervention of an author

Major tasks:

  • Manage residential, rural and commercial conveyancing matters from receipt of instructions directly from client or from the relevant managing Partner, Senior Associate or Solicitor in the firm to exchange then through to settlement with minimal supervision. This also includes details written advices on Contracts for purchases, post exchange and post settlement letters to the clients. Corresponding with the other parties in the matter including solicitors and banks. Calculating settlement adjustment figures and issuing same to other parties involve in transaction. 
  • Prepare all documentation associated with purchases and sales ie Contracts for sale of land, including off the plan, draft special conditions, draft put and call options or additional agreements if necessary, transfers, ordering of al enquiries and searches including Government statutory enquiries, survey reports, pest and building reports, Section 109 Certificates etc.
  • Handle "off the plan" sales for developments involving multiple off the plan sales from beginning to end with minimal supervision.

Lawyer 1-3 years experience - Dispute Resolution & Insolvency Group (Brisbane Office)

Kemp Strang is consistently regarded in the industry and among clients as having one of Australia's strongest practices in Insolvency & Restructuring. The practice is regularly recognised by leading International Legal Directories such as Chambers Global and the Asia Pacific Legal 500 as one of the leading Insolvency & Restructuring firms in Australia. The team acts for a number of Australia's largest and most recognised financial institutions and insolvency firms and all of the partners in the Dispute Resolution & Insolvency Group are insolvency specialists.

We also act for a number of large Australian and international banks and financial institutions in relation to commercial security enforcement and recovery actions. In this work we are involved in appointing and acting for receivers and administrators as well as litigation associated with security enforcement.

In addition to specialised work in Insolvency and Security Enforcement, we conduct commercial litigation for a wide range of corporate and private clients. Our work also includes property disputes, contractual disputes, administrative disputes and intellectual property disputes.

We are looking for a lawyer with 1-3 years' experience in dispute resolution. It would be an advantage for candidates to have experience in insolvency or security enforcement and in running their own litigation files, including preparation of pleadings and affidavits, and court appearances and briefing counsel.

The work is intellectually challenging and stimulating and would suit lawyers who seek to further develop their career in this area and be mentored by experts in their field.  Confidence, initiative, a willingness to learn and the ability to identify issues and determine how best to conduct the matter is important to success in the role.  The ability to work with other members of the team, including supervising paralegals, is essential.

Legal Assistant - Dispute Resolution & Insolvency group (Sydney Office)

We currently have a vacancy for a Legal Assistant in our Dispute Resolution & Insolvency group.

Role Responsibilities include:

  • Prioritise work received from solicitors and type correspondence, documents, faxes etc from dictation, edit documents including use of LEAP
  • Open new matters
  • Manage files, find and collate documents, close and archive files
  • Attend to photocopying and scanning of documents, mail, faxes and email
  • Liaise with clients as required
  • Assist with billing
  • Delegate larger typing tasks to WP
  • Draft routine correspondence
  • Assist with preparation of briefs
  • Prepare monthly update reports to clients
  • Ensure urgent tasks are dealt with when required
